1932

Bancomer is founded in Mexico City under the name Banco de Comercio

1982

The Mexican government nationalized the bank, including Bancomer.

1991

With the privatization of banking, Grupo Financiero Bancomer (GFB) is formed and recovers control of Bancomer.

1995

The money transfer business is created under the name of Bancomer Transfer Services (BTS)

1996

Afore Bancomer is created, as well as the bank-insurance company called Seguros Bancomer.

1997

The pension business is created under the name Pensiones Bancomer.

July 2000

BBVA capitalizes to Bancomer with USD 1.4 billion and Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomer (GFBB) is born of the merger of Grupo Financiero BBV-Probursa with Grupo Financiero Bancomer

August 2000

GFBB acquires Promex Banking, a bank with a strong presence in the central and western regions of the country and is consolidated as Mexico's largest financial institution.

June 2002

Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomer becomes a subsidiary of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria as a result of the latter holding more than 51% of the shares representing the Group's capital stock.

February - June 2004

BBVA launches a Public Buyback Offer for approximately the remaining BBVA Bancomer shareholding held by minority investors, achieving a total holding at the close of the operation of 98.88%.

January 2005

Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomer acquires Hipotecaria Nacional, an important mortgage SOFOL that, merged with the Bancomer mortgage network, created the Banca Hipotecaria, which was made up of 120 specialized branches.

July 2009

Merger of BBVA Bancomer and BBVA Bancomer Servicios, with authorization of the Mexican Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) and the approval of the Central Bank (Banco de México).

November 2012

On November 27, 2012, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. agreed with Afore XXI Banorte, S.A. de C.V. to sell shares of Afore BBVA Bancomer. The operation was subject to obtaining authorization from both the National Commission for Retirement Savings (CONSAR) and the Federal Competition Commission (COFECO), which were granted in November and December 2012 respectively.

January 2013

On January 9, 2013, the sale of the subsidiary Afore BBVA Bancomer to Afore XXI Banorte was concluded. On the same date the management and control of the company was transferred.

February 2013

On February 22, 2013, Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomer bought 20.61% of the shareholding of Seguros BBVA Bancomer to Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria. This transaction was made so that the GFBB consolidates its shareholding in Seguros BBVA Bancomer to reach a holding of 99.99%.
